ATDs for the PET 3-mer cationized by Li+, Na+,
and K+ obtained at drift cell temperatures of 80 K and ~550
K. For Li+PET3, two peaks appear in both ATDs, although
the resolution is somewhat lower in the 550 K ATD, with the same relative
peak intensities. For Na+PET3, two peaks appear in the
80 K ATD that are separated by ~25 μs (corresponding
to a difference in cross-section of 20 ± 2 Å2)
but only one peak is present in the 560 K ATD. Thus, the two conformers
that are separated at 80 K must be rapidly isomerizing in the drift cell
at higher temperatures, yielding a single, time-averaged peak in the ATD
(see 3-mer dynamics section).
For K+PET3, one peak appears in both ATDs, indicating
that if multiple conformers are present they are still rapidly isomerizing
in the drift cell at 80 K.
