Bing Gao My research interests at UCSB focused on the correlation between structure and function in biomolecules and the role of water in this relationship. I worked mostly with small biomolecules that are the building blocks of more complex species. One project I worked on used temperature-dependent equilibrium experiments to measure thermodynamic values for the hydration of amino acids. I also investigated the conformations of biomolecule model compounds, using ion-mobility spectrometry to distinguish charge-solvation and salt-bridge structures. All of my experimental work was supplemented with extensive electronic structure and molecular dynamics calculations. |
