Lab
Exercises
The laboratory part of the course consists of five exercises and a
course project. There are due dates for completion of each of these. Please
stay on schedule since late reports will be substantially penalized. Plan
on spending 4-8 hours per week in the laboratory. The laboratory (CCBL,
Rm 1153, Chemistry) will be made available to enrollees on a priority basis
during certain periods of the week and at other times is available on a
first come-first served basis when it is not scheduled for other classes.
Magnetic cards for admission to the room at off-hours are available to
qualified students. Some instruction will be given at the start of each
lab session; this will be repeated at each session during the week. Details
regarding the laboratory portion of the course will be announced the first
week of the class.
Persons in the laboratory will likely have a wide range of prior experiences
with scientific computing. Please feel free to help each other out in the
laboratory. A chat room for the laboratory has been established for the
class; this can be used to post questions and answers regarding particular
operations.
Exercise 5 and 6 are required of graduate students enrolled
in the course.
Exercise 5 or 6 is required of undergraduates enrolled
in the course.
Reminder: Food and beverages are
not permitted in the computer laboratory. Please step into the hall or
outdoors for your munchies.
