Frithjof is interested in the biochemistry and biodiversity of marine algae and microbes - in particular in algal defense, halogen and trace metal metabolism. Frithjof is also a certified scientific diver (AAUS in the USA and HSE Scuba IV in the UK) and has conducted diving-based expeditions throughout the world for biodiversity-related aspects of his research, including the Eastern Mediterranean (especially Greece and Cyprus), French Polynesia, Malaysia, California, the Canadian Arctic, Antarctica, Ascension Island and the Falkland Islands.- Frithjof is fluent in English, French, Modern Greek and German (native language).
