At UCSB, my interest was centered on studying the interactions between ligands and oligonucleotides by mass spectrometry, especially guanine-rich sequences, which can fold themselves into G-quadruplexes. I also studied the factors affecting the conformational transitions of quadruplex DNA. In conjunction with these experimental activities, I used molecular modeling to gain a better understanding of the systems being investigated.
