Perdita Barran
My research at UCSB was concerned with the structure and stability of small biological molecules in the gas phase. Much of the work I performed used ion mobility as an experimental probe of conformation. This technique gives collision cross sections which are then compared with low-energy candidate structures, modeled with molecular mechanics methods. The work I performed falls into four areas:
- The structure of small oligopeptides
- Hydration of peptides
- The effect of metal ions on protein structure
- A study of the structure of transmembrane peptides
